Tobacco smoking has proven to be a dangerous form of relieving stress, given that it takes away the life of one person every eight seconds, reason enough to find the answer to the question why people should stop smoking?. The more alarming fact about smoking is that not only the person who smokes is affected; even the people around a smoker who happen to inhale the smoke put their lives in danger. Second-hand smoke is a potent inducer of death even if it is not actually obvious, but truths about it have been uncovered, with very disturbing facts and figures.
People from all countries and regions are exposed to second-hand smoke, which is also known as environmental tobacco smoke or tobacco smoke pollution. Wherever people go, they are at risk of getting exposed to the smoke that cigarettes emit; homes, schools, restaurants, workplaces, public transport facilities, and bars are all unsafe places when it comes to second-hand smoke. Worldwide, more than 50% of children are exposed to tobacco smoke pollution in their homes, making this said safe place as a harbinger of danger, that’s why to be willing to stop smoking it’s so important these days.
Studies and reviews based on significant evidences related to tobacco smoking reveal the carcinogenic properties of tobacco and its close connection to lung cancer now consider that all the smoking people are exposed to this. These studies conclude that even second-hand smoke can be carcinogenic to people, which is backed by evidence of escalating lung cancer cases among non-smokers. The increase in the risk of developing cancer is said to be 20% in women and 30% in men, so everyone in the family can really be susceptible to health risks brought by smoking tobacco. Workplaces are also unsafe given the data of 16 to 19% increase in risk among people who have smoking coworkers. These individuals who are exposed to secondary smoke have a 25 to 35% chance of developing acute coronary disease, among other heart and respiratory ailments. In adults, inhaling smoke from tobacco can lead to an exacerbated asthma or reduced lung function.
In smoking, nobody is actually safe even children. Those who live with smoking parents have an increased risk of developing otitis media and lower tract respiratory infections, that’s a good motive smoking people should consider stop. In addition, inhaling tobacco smoke is proven to increase the severity of asthma episodes among children, and worse, it could even be linked to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The loss a family can experience due to involuntary smoking can be a great disaster, even more emotionally breaking than other active causes of death. Thus, you should think in your family and protect them by saying no to smoking.
